Day 8

We walked around DC today…and walked…and walked. Holly was gracious enough to be our tour guide. We would have been lost on the Metro (DC area Subway) without her.

We saw the capitol building, but were too late for the tour (maybe next time).

We were here.

The price of freedom…

We saw the Washington Monument. Chelle didn’t know that people could climb up in there (no, we didn’t).

And of course, we saw the White House.

Jacob did wonderfully the whole time. It was hot and humid, yet he was still a happy boy!

We toured the national Archives.

We saw the Declaration of Independence, as well as other famous documents. We couldn’t take pictures as they do not allow flash photography, but we did pick up some nice mementos.

We did get to see a guy drumming on various items. He was pretty talented!

By the time we left DC, we were tired, aching, and sore. We decided that next time we go to DC, we are spending a whole week so we can take in all the sites and exhibits. There just wasn’t enough time!

So back to Maryland we went. No, we didn’t see another welcome sign, so again, no picture. Chelle is pretty bummed about this.

We finally got to Bill & Stephanie’s house. Haley and Kelsey finally got to meet Jacob.

Stephanie helped hold Jacob and got to see firsthand how he loves to stand up.

Phil and Bill talked after dinner.

We had chicken marinated in raspberry vinaigrette. Chelle thought it was absolutely delicious! It was a warm, humid evening, so we hung out on the porch for a long time. Chelle saw fireflies, which completely amaze her. For the longest time, she thought that they didn’t really exist (we don’t have them on the west coast). She wanted to take a picture of them, but it was just too dark.

We decided to stay one more day and relax…you know, sort of like a vacation…

Jacob didn’t sleep very well. We think that maybe the heat got to him. He was very cranky and couldn’t get settled. Plus, we are pretty sure he’s teething. He won’t stop chewing on things. We are getting him a teething ring tomorrow.

Yeah we tried to do the whole DC thing in one day last year. It was all a blur. At least those things were all open for you. We happened to be there when a lot of it was under construction.
